Soon All Google Ad Products Will Be Encrypted & Yahoo Continues To Encourage Ad Partners To Mov

google-yahoo1-1920

The “HTTPS Everywhere” movement aims to encrypt the web and has been something that both Google and Yahoo have publicly supported. Google started with Gmail back in 2008, and Yahoo just announced a fully secure end-to-end email experience. The focus for both Google and Yahoo is now headed towards Ads. Over the coming months, all Google Ad products from YouTube to AdWords will be encrypted and Yahoo’s following suit.

Last year Google started with all YouTube ads going HTTPS. The remaining Google targets  are as follows with a roll out date of June 30th for all encryption:

  1. Display Ads (Google Display, AdMob &Double Click Publishers) The “vast majority” of all mobile, video and desktop displays will be encrypted.

  2. Buying Platforms (AdWords, DoubleClick) The platforms will have the ability to serve HTTPS-encrypted display ads to any inventory that is also HTTPS-enabled.

On the same note, Yahoo’s Trust & Safety team stated that Yahoo has committed to “what has been perhaps the largest-ever transition to SSL encryption for any publisher with display ads”. Yahoo has been open about the benefits of secured ads and is working closely with tech partners on this issue.
