Oreo began the year with a
viral tweet during the Super Bowl, and the cookie-maker seems to be hoping to end the year with another touchdown — this one in the form of a new video that’s gaining steam on YouTube and social networks.
It’s called “Oreo Cookie Balls,” and the 76-second video seems to have everything it takes to go viral this Christmas: a catchy tune, funny lyrics and — this is important for the sake of virality, folks — several just-risqué-enough references to cookie balls. The video also manages to include several ideas for eating and serving cookie balls, which is kinda smart since this isn’t an actual product you can buy on the shelf at your local grocery store. (You gotta make them from a recipe.)
Have a look for yourself (and just try not to start singing along with that chorus):
Oreo actually tweeted the video way back on Wednesday morning, which is like an eternity in viral video years. (Unruly says that 25 percent of shares usually happen in the first three days following an ad’s release.)
The Oreo Cookie Balls video had about 3,000 views on YouTube as of Friday morning. As of about 11 am PT today, it had more than 33,000, and Unruly says it’s been shared more than 2,500 times.
Christmas is still more than two weeks away. Will Cookie Balls score a year-end viral touchdown between now and then?
