YouTube Trashes The Inbox In Exchange For Google+ Messaging Feature

Big changes are coming this week to the way that YouTube creators connect with their fans. Gone will be the YouTube Inbox, replaced by a new system that utilized Google+ messaging called, well, Messaging. In order to utilize this system the YouTube creator must be connected to a Google+ account.

The new message system will feature:

  1. Threaded Conversations – A tool that will help keep the context of any exchange

  2. Easier Contacting – To contact the video owner any user can hop over the about tab and click “send message”.

  3. Spam Detection – The new messages section will have a spam section to keep the trolls at bay.

Worried that you won’t have access to your old inbox? There’s still time to save as the inbox will now be read-only as of today, but all users will have the ability to read and download all old messages.

Included in this round of upgrades are changes to the commenting system, as well. YouTube creators will have the ability to fine-tune comments by their subscribers, look for popular comments across the channel and review comments quicker that need approval. In addition, a search tool for comments will be available to help find discussions on a specific phrase or keyword.

For more information, see the official release from YouTube.
