Yahoo #1 For Third Straight Month — comScore

Yahoo was

named the top US Internet site in July by comScore, for the first time since May 2011. That caused a minor sensation and couldn’t fully be explained by comScore or others. It happened again in August.

Yahoo is once again the top US internet site in terms of consumer reach and traffic for the third straight month. Tumblr is reported separately (at #30). If it were folded in to Yahoo’s total the company would have more than 40 million more monthly uniques than #2 Google.

Yahoo is also at the top of comScore’s “Ad Focus” rankings, which measure the reach of online ad networks. Both sets of rankings do not include mobile traffic.

On Yahoo’s third quarter earnings call CEO Marissa Mayer said that the company had erased two years of traffic declines. She reported that it now had 800 million global monthly uniques, representing a 20 percent increase since she took charge of the company over a year ago.

She also reported that Yahoo has more than 390 million monthly mobile users.

Yahoo’s third quarter financial results barely beat expectations and were generally lackluster. However the comScore traffic data will be seen as further validation of the company’s strategy and Mayer’s leadership.
