Six years ago, Intercom invented business messaging – helping internet businesses interact with their customers in a personal, scalable way that had never been done before.
Today we are proud that 500 million business conversations happen each month through Intercom, and that number is doubling year-over-year. A big part of why we are seeing this growth is that our customers have found that when they use Intercom to engage their website visitors, conversion rates and sales increase by more than 80%!
We are laser focused on driving breakthrough innovations which help our customers grow their businesses efficiently. Over the past year we have introduced new products, like our bot Operator and our live chat solution for sales and marketing teams, and new levels of automation and intelligence to help do this.
That is why we are so excited to announce we are doubling the size of the Product teams at Intercom over the next 18 months. Our teams across Intercom think and work holistically, so when we talk about Product, we mean engineering, design, product management, research and analytics. That means we’ll be hiring 350 people over the next 18 months across our offices in San Francisco, Dublin, London, Chicago and Sydney. The majority of our new team members will be focused on product, which is built in Dublin, San Francisco and London. Here’s a look at what’s happening in each of those offices:
San Francisco ??
Our corporate headquarters and the majority of our business team is in SF. Now we are dramatically expanding our product work and product team here. There is world-class consumer tech talent in SF and this will help us continue to grow and innovate at a faster and faster pace. As a part of this, we are moving our Messenger product, which is the face of Intercom, to SF. Also in SF, we have our Product teams that are focused on Growth and our Onboarding & Activation teams, conveniently co-located with the majority of our go-to-market team. This is just the start, we will be building out new products here and in all of our offices.
Our SF Product team is led by Ann Montgomery, leading product management & design, and Louis Bennett, leading engineering.
Ann is a successful serial entrepreneur and product leader. Her most recent startup, where she was CEO, was sold to Airbnb, and Ann then went on to work closely with Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia in a role where she led development for all new products at Airbnb. Ann joined us this past May. She is wildly impressive, has deep expertise and a track record and passion for creating amazing, breakthrough customer experiences.
Louis was one of the top engineering leaders at Trulia and helped to lead that business from $1M in revenue when he joined to $250M in revenue when he left. He built the engineering team from a handful of people to hundreds. He helped bring the company public and later through its acquisition for $3.5B. Louis is inspiring, down to earth, humble and deeply focused on diversity to build strong teams.
Dublin ??
In Dublin we have our product teams, our Platform team, and our Foundations team. We have attracted some of the best talent in the world here, which in turn created a unique engineering culture full of heart and hustle, probably best summarized by Darragh’s Shipping is your company’s heartbeat article. We have attracted top talent from great companies like Amazon, Google, Facebook and HubSpot (by the way, just to answer one of our most commonly asked questions, yes, we support relocations to Dublin!). Paul recently published this article on why product people choose Intercom over other companies.
Our Dublin team is led by our co-founders Des Traynor (our Chief Strategy Officer) and Ciaran Lee (our Chief Technology Officer), along with Paul Adams, leading product management, design and research, and Darragh Curran, leading engineering.
Paul needs no introduction for most of you reading this. His vision and passion have been the catalyst for much of what Intercom is today. Previously Paul was the global head of brand design at Facebook, led product teams at Facebook, and worked in UX at Google, where he worked on Gmail, YouTube and mobile.
Darragh also needs no introduction for most of you. He has led Intercom engineering for the past 5 years and has grown and scaled our products to where they are today. Darragh joined Intercom from Amazon where he learned a thing or two about building great companies and building to scale.
We are looking for the best talent in Europe to join our team and work with us to solve important customer problems. Interested? Check out our Dublin opportunities here.
London ??
In London, our newest office, we’re assembling an all-star team focused on developing our machine learning capabilities, building on top of our bot Operator and on building one of our newest core applications, Articles.
We opened our London office in October and since then our growth there has outpaced all of our expectations. We seeded the office with some talented Intercom veterans, and the team is firing on all cylinders. Within 5 days of opening the office, the London team was demoing code they had written and checked into production, already innovating and helping customers. You can see all London roles here.
Be you at Intercom
We look for people who want to make an impact, who want to solve problems, who want to design, build and ship great product. Who think big and start small.
We’re truly committed to fostering a great environment for builders and creators who want to change the world and are willing to hustle for it. We are committed to finding the best people and talent, no matter who they are, and fostering an authentic and diverse environment where we all can do our best work. It is worth noting that 50% of our leadership hires in the last year were women, and of all the product and engineering leadership roles we have hired or promoted in the last year, 50% were women.
Since day one, we’ve built with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment at our core. We do more than 100 deployments a day and we are getting better and better every week.
The kind of things that many companies talk about or do in pockets is a part of our everyday routine. Shipping is the heartbeat of our company.
