Twitter has begun inviting additional small businesses to use its
self-serve advertising platform, and has relaxed one of the main requirements to participate: American Express cards are no longer required.
A Twitter spokesperson has confirmed to Marketing Land that the program is now available to more than just American Express cardholders; advertisers can use that or a VISA card.
HasOffers first reported that the program has expanded. That article suggests that there’s a minimum threshold of 5,000 followers for receiving an invite; Twitter declined to comment on how it selects who can join the program. The company did repeat previous statements that they’ll continue to roll out the small business ad program carefully.
As with all of our advertising efforts, we are being thoughtful and deliberate in how we roll out self-serve to all kinds of small and local businesses. Over the last few months, we’ve been slowly making it available to more advertisers. We see a huge opportunity here and we want to get it right.
Twitter began accepting small business signups for its self-serve ad platform in February, and the ads rolled out in late March. At first, the program was only open to about 10,000 small businesses that were American Express cardholders.
