If Google Glass is going to gain widespread consumer acceptance, it’s going to happen on the strength of the apps that are available for it.
So with Google re-opening Glass sales earlier this week, it’s surely not a coincidence that the company just announced that three well known companies in the travel and hospitality space have new Glass apps: Foursquare, OpenTable and TripIt.
The Foursquare app offers local search on Glass, plus check-ins (which is odd since Foursquare recently announced that check-ins are moving to its new Swarm app).
OpenTable’s app adds a new “OK Glass, make a reservation” voice command and then lets you look for nearby restaurants and make reservations via Glass.
The TripIt app brings many of the same travel planning and organizing features to Glass — available tools depend on whether you have a regular or pro TripIt account.
There’ll be more big names bringing travel apps to Google Glass soon: Starwood Hotels has already previewed its app and Destinia, a major European online travel site, is planning to launch an app called Hotel Near Me.
