This Week On Vine: The Bieber Effect, Celebrating Wimbledon & Celebrity Crossovers

We’ve been keeping a secret. The fact is, each week the most popular Vines by a wide margin are coming from athletes, pop stars and brands with tie-ins to those folks. Singing celebrities like Little Mix or Harry Styles can do anything or nearly nothing at all and still have their Vine’s share count reach five figures.

Hordes of Beliebers descended on the Omaha mall to catch a glimpse of Justin Beiber. Sadly, the official JC Penney account seemed not to notice that their outlet was featured prominently in a Vine that was shared nearly 45k times.

Anyone for some golf? Harry Styles and his mates tee off in this Vine to the tune of over 30k retweets and 40k shares. Is he a new golf role model?

With star power like that, it’s no surprise that Joe Jonas secretly wants to be the 6th member of One Direction.

Girl band Little Mix are probably the most prolific celebrities on Vine we’ve seen. This week saw band member Perrie celebrate her birthday. What does someone who could have anything do on their birthday? Go down a slide and play swingball of course!

Yahoo! Music regularly features the latest pop talent in their Vines — such as Fifth Harmony doing the Yahoo! yodel.

The big news in sports was that Andy Murray became the first British player to win the Wimbledon men’s trophy in 77 years. He celebrated by calling out on Twitter to his millions of followers, asking them to find him on Vine. He chose to keep his Vine exclusive to the app itself rather than posting it on Twitter.

Before I forget, I’ve uploaded a #Vine of the trophy. You can see it by downloading @vineapp and searching for @andy_murray — Andy Murray (@andy_murray) July 8, 2013

Interesting to see @andy_murray posted his celebratory Vine exclusively on the app – https://t.co/BTVitxymey — BRANDS ON VINE (@brandsonvine) July 12, 2013

The official Wimbledon account shared the crowd reaction in the moment right after Murray won the Wimbledon final (also exclusively on the app, which we’ve retweeted for the Web).

This @Wimbledon Vine was release solely on the app as well – we’re seeing more brands using Vine exclusively – https://t.co/7QXE5rXR5Q — BRANDS ON VINE (@brandsonvine) July 12, 2013

Speaking of the Beiber-effect, Justin is apparently a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fan. His question was answered with Vine – which went on to be shared over 2k times as a result.

Chelsea FC give us an all-access tour of the stadium like never before! Adidas also gets an incidental video mention by virtue of their sponsorship.

However, Adidas did use Vine deliberately and successfully to promote their new crossover brand Adidas Neo, promoted by Selena Gomez.

Another smart use of cross-promotion on Vine was by Taco Bell, who invited the creators of the popular YouTube channel Our2ndLife to visit their headquarters and invent their own meals.

Finally, we leave you with Target’s creative celebration of summertime. Everyone loves bubbles!
