Following its immediate post-Xmas tablet traffic report, ad network Chitika has released new data showing the relative positions of the various tablet makers in North America. The iPad has lost roughly three points since a year ago, but it remains dominant.
Samsung tablets and Microsoft Surface appear to be the “big gainers” on the list vs. a year ago. However Amazon Kindle is the number two tablet overall, by traffic, according to Chitika. After an initial post-Xmas lift Kindle traffic is flat year-over-year.

The data were compiled from millions of North American ad impressions in January. Last week Microsoft reported revenue from Surface tablets had more than doubled (to $893 million from $400 million last quarter), which seems to be supported by the traffic bump in the Chitika data.

Overall the iPad still generated the lion’s share of North American tablet traffic with 78 percent, which was down from 81 percent a year ago. Other third parties report the iPad’s “shipments” market share as much lower than the traffic data indicate.
