Report: Despite Smaller Share iOS Devices Generate 67 Percent Of Mobile Internet Traffic

Recently there have been

a number of reports that assert iOS (iPhone, iPads) are generating the majority of mobile web traffic (and mobile transactions). This is somewhat strange because of the dominance and proliferation of Android handsets on the market.

Below are comScore’s most recent US smartphone operating system share data. Android has essentially 54 percent of the market to Apple’s 34 percent.

Data from mobile ad network Millennial appears to verify or validate these comScore data, showing Android devices generating the majority of mobile ad impressions on its network.

However Chitika has reviewed six months of data from its ad network and found that 67 percent of mobile traffic is coming from Apple devices. Part of this may be explained by the lift that the iPad provides to iOS. However that doesn’t fully account for what’s now being called “the Android paradox.”
