Yahoo has been showing
a variety of new logos, one for every day until its September 4 new logo unveiling. The new logo and identity are meant to reflect a “new spirit of innovation” at the company and an updated image.
Polling platform/app Polar has been testing all of the logos against the current logo. Of all those tested by Polar (and more than 76,000 user votes) only one has beaten the “old” Yahoo logo — Day 10 (left below).
According to Polar’s Dmitry Dragilev the logo above left won soundly: 75% (day 10) to 25% (original). He added, however, that two others have come close. Dragilev told me by email that the two most disliked logos were “day four” and “day six” (below).
If you’d like to review the many Yahoo logo choices and register your opinion, you can do so here. The YouTube video below shows the full range of potential logos. (I wonder how much focus group testing or polling Yahoo itself has done.)
Speaking of YouTube, the Google subsidiary has also introduced new logo designs that are “flatter,” in keeping with logo-design trends. Apparently the site is going to maintain its current logo (at least for now) while it rolls out alternatives on other properties, such as Google+.
Which logo do you prefer: YouTube classic or the newer flat design? I some respects I like the new design but it feels less “branded” to me.
