Infographic: Holiday Shopping In A Mobile & Tablet World

Have you thought about mobile and tablet users for this holiday shopping season? If not, think again. While most web site visits still take place from desktops, mobile and tablet use is rising. The behavior and conversion of tablet users is closer to desktop users. Mobile users, however, seem to have different needs.

The folks at testing service Monetate have made an infographic full of stats on desktop shopping compared to mobile and tablet usage, based on data from their own service:

What works for desktop users seems to work for tablet users: they “bounce” away from a site, or add to a shopping cart or actually convert at about the same rate.

Mobile users are different, bouncing more, adding less and converting less. That might not be all bad news, however. Monetate speculates that some might be doing in-store shopping research.

Smart online retailers might ensure they have mobile sites that cater to this type of behavior, perhaps with ways to even track it, perhaps offering to email back more information.
