The Guys in Blue from the Southern California Honda Dealers group, who possess a penchant for helping people out on a regular basis, conducted a Fathers Day social media campaign which asked people to share why their dad is so great and why he deserves a Random Act of Helpfulness.

Random Acts of Helpfulness is an ongoing campaign which showers Southern Californians with random gifts such as free gas from its big, blue #TankerTuesday truck, coupons to Six Flags and tickets to sporting events.

The Father’s Day element of the Random Acts of Helpfulness campaign began with posts on Facebook and Twitter asking people to email their dad stories to the SoCal Honda Dealers:

Four lucky and deserving dads received customized gift packages. One dad, Derek Slagle, a widowed father of three who couldn’t afford to buy clothes for himself, was taken on a shopping spree. Chet Thomas, an 80-year-old retired Army, Navy and police officer, was nominated by his daughter, Michelle Thomas, and received a special Father’s Day lunch and a three-year gym membership.

Phillip Kreitz was nominated by his wife, Alice Kreitz, and his wish for a super awesome outdoor grill was granted. A fourth father — of eight kids — will be surprised with his gift this Saturday. He will receive a VIP-style trip for his entire family to an Anaheim Angels home game.

In addition to giving these individualized gifts, the Guys in Blue also spent Father’s Day weekend offering valet parking services to dads at area malls and filing up their tanks with free gas from the #TankerTuesday truck.

The Random Acts of Helpfulness campaign, which launched last year, also includes several TV ads which highlight some of the acts performed — such as delivering rolls of quarters to people in laundromats, the delivery of an air conditioner to an area resident on a hot day and providing free coffee and food at a local area coffee shop:

Combined, the three videos have been viewed over 1.2 million times.

Over the past year, the Southern California Honda Dealers have chronicled their Random Acts of Helpfulness on their Facebook page:
