announced yesterday that it has added more “cards” to Google Now. The following are the new types of content and data that Google Now will be showing:
Car rentals card
Concert ticket card
Improved public transit cards
Commute sharing card
Set reminders while you search
Updated TV card
NCAA football scores
Of particular interest in the list above is the “commute sharing card,” which will allow others to track your movements and get a better sense of when you’ll arrive. Here’s Google’s explanation of the feature: “When leaving work, you can now choose to inform your loved ones that you are on your way home. Learn more at http://goo.gl/bVUkLY.”
It has to be turned on and off manually.
This capability was first introduced by a company called Glympse (its location tracking expires and isn’t persistent). That feature was later copied and adopted by Waze in its most recent pre-Google release. Google acquired Waze (subject to federal approval) and recently started swapping features with the app.
Google Now has recently become a bigger feature of Google overall. The company incorporated many of the capabilities and content of Google Now into the PC and mobile search experience through “quick answers.”
