Android is the world’s dominant smartphone operating system; and Samsung is the dominant Android handset maker. In North America the Samsung devices that generate the most traffic are the Galaxy S3 handset and the 10-inch Galaxy tablet.
These data come from ad network Chitika, which analyzed “tens of millions of [North American] Samsung smartphone- and tablet-based online ad impressions” in December.
According to the Chitika data, the Galaxy S3 generates a full third of Samsung-Android handset traffic. That’s followed by the Galaxy S4, roughly 10 points behind.

These data show that the S4 has been less successful than the S3 from a sales perspective. Though popular the Galaxy Note devices are far less common than the smaller Samsung handsets. Mirroring the S3-S4 pattern, the Galaxy Note 2 is more popular (from a traffic perspective) than its successor the Note 3.
In terms of true tablets, the public appears to favor 7-inch and 10-inch screens — despite Samsung offering a veritable cornucopia of tablet screen sizes. Between the two most popular Samsung tablets the 10-inch Galaxy tab generates a good deal more traffic than its smaller sibling.

As much as any smartphone maker Samsung has pushed the envelope in terms of screen size, forcing Apple to move beyond its screen comfort zone. In its report Chitika observed that “71 percent of Samsung smartphone usage within the [North American] continent is generated by devices with 4.8” displays or larger.”
