Facebook’s ‘Premieres’ videos now available to all global Pages

Facebook is rolling out its Premieres video format — pre-recorded videos that play as live footage — to all global Pages. The company is also expanding its Top Fans feature and Live Polls to global Pages as well.

Why you should care

With the global roll-out of Premieres videos, marketers and advertisers that own Pages will now have access to the video format first announced in April when it was offered to a limited group of creators, publishers and shows.

The Premieres videos also include ad breaks, which means the wider roll-out will open more video ad inventory on Facebook as the videos will not only display on global Pages, but also Facebook Watch.

Sony, BuzzFeed, Oprah Winfrey Network’s (OWN) SuperSoul and Buffalo Bills are among the brands with early access to Premieres videos.

Page admins will be able to schedule Premieres videos up to a week in advance. When scheduling the video, a post will be created that will act as a placeholder for the upcoming video — giving followers the ability to show interest in the video, request a reminder when it goes live or share the video with other users before it goes up.

Facebook says the placeholder post will “seamlessly” turn into the Premiere video once it posts. Once it plays, it will then remain on the Page as an on-demand video.

More on the announcement

  1. Facebook is expanding Top Fans for Pages globally, a feature that lets Pages with 10,000 or more followers highlight its most active fans with a badge that denotes their Top Fan status.

  2. Live Polls — a feature that lets creators run polls during live videos to encourage more audience engagement — is being rolled out to all global Pages, and can be leveraged using the Live API or Facebook’s live publishing tool.

  3. Facebook says it will soon allow creators to add polls to on-demand videos in addition to their live videos.
