Dawn Data Brings A Daily Dose Of Google Analytics To Google Glass

The Google Glass app ecosystem is growing slowly (the Glass Developer Kit still hasn’t been released), but one of the newest apps around is bound to be a hit with the marketing community.

It’s called Dawn Data, and it’s a new app from developers Mark Silverberg and Brian Norris. Silverberg says the app was initially a personal project, but he decided to convert it to a public app for other Glass Explorers to use.

Dawn Data obviously doesn’t deliver full Google Analytics functionality and data to Glass, but it does give just about all of the traditional traffic-based data that a website owner would want. And it gives a pretty in-depth snapshot, too — you get your traffic in standard numeric form, as well as several charts with time-period comparisons.

The screenshots below are a sample of what Dawn Data shows me about @U2, my U2 website. The first card is overall data for the past 30 days, then I’ve added a couple of the comparison charts.

There are two ways to get Google Analytics data via Dawn Data:

  1. First, the app sends a daily report at 8:00 am ET showing yesterday’s traffic and comparing it with the previous 24-hour period.

  2. Second, you can use the “Take A Note” command at any time to tell the app to send you data for a specific time frame. In the screenshots above, I requested 30 days and Dawn Data included a comparison to the previous 30 days. In this scenario, the card with the analytics data arrived in my Glass timeline almost immediately.

There are a couple limitations. At the moment, you can only connect the app to one Google Analytics profile at a time. If you want to see data from a different profile, you have to visit DawnData.com again and go back through the connection process. Also, as I mentioned above, the data available via the app is limited to standard traffic-based data.

The developers say they’ll work on making more Google Analytics data available, along with YouTube analytics, social media data and Moz reports. If all of that comes to fruition, Dawn Data would be setting a high standard early on for getting marketing analytics via Google Glass.
