A Week After Mobilegeddon: What We Know About Google’s Mobile Friendly Update So Far

A week after Mobilegeddon, what do we know? That it will likely take a few days to finish rolling out, that many haven’t seemed to notice what’s happened so far yet we do have some early winners and losers.

Last Tuesday Google confirmed the roll out began and by the end of the week they confirmed it has gone live in several Google data centers. But Google has also said it will not fully roll out for a week and a half or so.

It has only been a week, so I’d expect by the end of this week, we would see a full roll out of the Google mobile friendly update.

This update is/was expected to be very significant, more so than the impact we felt with the Panda or Penguin algorithms. But for the most part, maybe since it is not fully rolled out yet, the impact has not been that concerning to webmasters.

Google did say the lead up to this launch lead to a 4.7% uptick in mobile friendly web sites within their index.

SearchMetrics did release an early listing of the Mobilegeddon Winners & Losers. But like I said, the webmaster and SEO community have not been up in arms about this update, as far as I can see.

This morning I posted a poll on the Search Engine Roundtable and currently 70% of those who took it said they do not see the mobile friendly update live yet.

Even if it is fully live and your site is not mobile friendly, you can still go mobile friendly – read our Google mobile friendly FAQs to help you get your site mobile friendly ready.
