YouTube Eliminates 301+ Standard To Check For Spam – Now Counts Video Views In Real-Time

According to an infographic tweeted today from @YTCreators (the YouTube Creators Twitter handle), YouTube is no longer halting video view counts at 300 to verify “real” views, and instead, counting views in real-time while simultaneously reviewing for spam.

The announcement has already drawn much applause from creators, with the tweet receiving many positive replies like the following:

@YTCreators you guys are really improving lately. Whether it’s small stuff or big stuff, it’s all awesome!! Keep it up (⌒▽⌒) — Ed Moreno (@dangerousreaper) August 5, 2015

Before now, YouTube would freeze a video’s view count at 300 while it monitored views to make sure they were coming from actual viewers versus bots. After the views were verified, Youtube would update the view count with the verified number, a process it says would take a couple hours.

“Now, we count views we’re confident come from real people as they’re recorded and keep reviewing the rest,” says YouTube.

Here’s the graphic YouTube tweeted to explain the new review process:
