Marketing campaigns from realtors trying to sell houses are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to creativity. After all, it’s akin to a car dealer moving metal. They don’t care about the actual car. All they care about is moving the thing off the lot (or, in the case of a house, assigning the lot to another person).
Marketing campaigns from individuals trying to sell, well, anything, are usually akin to late night infomercials shot by a five year old who just downed a pot of coffee. So we were filled with trepidation when we received this video entitled Poetic Summerhouse; an effort to sell a remote house in Sweden — currently owned by Anne Ingevold — that has been on the market for a year without results.
The video, created by freelance creative Kenneth Kaadtmann, is a poetic masterpiece which talks about a house “surrounded by spruce and pine” that’s “only” 180 kilometers from Copenhagen. With a voiceover intended to sound like Liam Neeson (well, at least that’s what the creators told us), the video lulls one into the serene state of bliss only experienced in the kind of remote wilderness this house overlooks.
As the blissful mood sets in, our Liam Neeson sound-a-like intones, “There is a house in Sweden not far from a magic lake connected by fresh animal tracks from the wildlife around the 3,000 square meters of whispering trees that stand in sharp contrast to the dark blue sky. An unmistaken force that would defeat the cognitive with an insatiable desire to sit in the forest…shirtless…while reading a book.”
The video, shot freestyle without storyboard or script, ends with with a link to a Facebook page on which you can read up on the house’s history, view more pictures and ask questions of the owner.
Have you seen a great piece of creative that’s worthy of sharing? If so, we’d love to highlight it here. Please send submissions to cod@marketingland.com.
