Huffington Post earned the most social shares on Facebook among the internet’s major publishers, with more than 7.6 million shares of its content during the month of June.
That activity comes from the news site’s 21,722 published articles during the month, according to new data from NewsWhip, a platform that tracks content sharing on social networks. (Note: Many of the publishers on its list are also NewsWhip clients.)
Traditional media outlets like Fox News (4), NBC (5), The Guardian (9) and BBC (10) all made the top ten, as did less known outlets like LittleThings.com (3) and Diply (8). Remarkably, those two sites cracked the top 10 of Facebook shares with only 2,100 and 3,100 articles, respectively — a far cry from, for example, the 59,000 articles that Fox News published during June.
HuffPo was No. 2 behind Playbuzz.com when NewsWhip last posted its list of the most-shared publishers, but Playbuzz asked out of the list because it considers itself a platform for others to become publishers, rather than a publisher itself.
Top Twitter Publishers, June 2015
Huffington Post was also in the top ten of June’s most tweeted publishers, a list that NewsWhip posted last week. Traditional media outlets dominate that list, with BBC on top, New York Times at No. 2 and The Guardian and NBC at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
Overall, five publishers made both top ten lists in June: HuffPo, Buzzfeed, NBC, The Guardian and BBC.
