Vocus Rolls Out Social Media Updates To PRWeb, Adding Twitter Cards & Google Author Tags

Marketing solutions provider Vocus has rolled out three

new social media updates to their press release distribution service PRWeb, adding Twitter Cards, Google Author tags, and markup language that helps sites like Facebook identify press release headlines, summaries and dates.

In the release announcing the updates, Vocus claims a recent Experian report found the average person spends 27 percent of their time on social media compared to only 3 percent of their time on news sites. With this in mind, the company’s updates are intended to make press releases distributed on PRWeb more relevant in terms of how they are consumed via social media networks.

Along with the new markup language, Vocus has added author tags to PRWeb, ensuring releases are automatically attached to the specified Google author profile. The company has also released new Twitter cards, optimizing press releases for the 140-character social media feed:

This enhancement lets companies make additional media available within tweets with a “Show Summary” feature on the Tweet that will display a visual asset and associated content including full headline, and summary of the press release.

“Vocus is focused on maintaining PRWeb as the most social of all the press release services,” said Vocus senior vice president of products You Mon Tsang, “We want to help organizations reach their audience and social is where many spend their time.”
