Twitter’s Vine App Now Available On Android Devices; iOS Version Hits 13M Users

Twitter’s popular Vine app is finally

Twitter bought and released the social video app on iOS back in January, and it’s been one of the most popular apps among iPhone and iPad users for several months now. (It’s currently the No. 4 free app on the iPhone, for example.) In today’s announcement, Twitter says the iOS version has more than 13 million users.

The Android version is available now on Google Play, but isn’t quite the same app as on iOS:

Though we’ve been very focused on releasing Vine for Android, we’ve continued to release updates and add new features to the iOS app. As a result, the two apps are not perfectly in sync, but that won’t be the case for long. Over the coming weeks, you’ll see frequent updates with new features –– including front-facing camera, search, mentions and hashtags, and the ability to share to Facebook –– as well as bug fixes and performance improvements.

That said, the Android version does have the ability to zoom — something us iOSers don’t have (yet?).

Brands and marketers — and politicians, too — have started adopting Vine, as well. In March, the Hollywood film Wolverine became the first movie to premiere a six-second film trailer on Vine.
