Rumor: Twitter To Check Into A Partnership With Foursquare For 2015

Twitter-Foursquare

A New Year’s resolution that may be kept in 2015 is Twitter’s goal of beefing up location services — thanks to a new partnership with Foursquare. According to Business Insider, a source has leaked plans of the two social giants teaming up in a collaborative effort.

Twitter has yearned to become more than just a 140 character service and has bolstered rich content like video, Twitter Cards and GIFs. Twitter has tested out displaying specific location tweets to new users in major cities with stellar results including a higher rate of reengaging with the service in a 30 day period. As Business Insider points out, the recent analyst presentation stated

Understanding places you care about, whether that’s the place you’re standing when you access Twitter, your home country, or someplace else on the globe that’s captured your attention. Organizing the world’s public conversations in real time can offer limitless opportunities.”

A collaboration between the two could be quite interesting for users that could help both services depending on integration. Pulling in Swarm data to identify public conversations occurring real-time in a single location would be quite powerful and ramping up Foursquare’s reviews and tips when in the vicinity of a restaurant or service could help Foursquare’s battle vs. Yelp and other review sites.

This is an area that Twitter has frankly been poor in, and a coming partnership would be welcomed with open arms by users of both services. For the full story, see Business Insider.
