Gigya, a social customer management and tools company, has released its most recent social sharing report which contains some eye-opening information. The global sharing champion was Facebook, to no one’s surprise; but, Pinterest’s numbers have skyrocketed, even surpassing Facebook for e-commerce-related sharing. Out of all social networks, three made up 91% of all sharing. Leading the way in social sharing was Facebook (41%,) Twitter (30%,) and Pinterest (20%) with LinkedIn coming in 4th with 4% of overall shares.

When it comes to e-commerce, Pinterest saw the most action with 44% of all e-commerce based shares. Facebook still showed good numbers with 37% of the shares and Twitter fell far back with only 12% of e-commerce shares. In contrast to e-commerce data, Pinterest (20%) fell below Facebook (40%) and Twitter (30%) when looking at sharing from media and publishers.

Facebook also dominated sharing of consumer brands, travel/hospitality and education based shares. Pinterest again had a solid showing (17%) in travel/hospitality space, out-sharing Twitter (14%). Google+ had the most traction in the Education/Non-profit space with 8% of overall shares. This more than doubled their sharing in any other sector.

Gigya also provided sharing metrics by continent in their full report. North America saw the most diverse sharing platforms and while Facebook still reigns supreme (36% of shares,) more sharing occurs on Pinterest (29%) than Twitter (24%.)
