Reaction To Its Facebook Video Inspires VW To Create Baby Stroller With Automatic Brakes

Back in April, VW Netherlands posted an ad on Facebook featuring vehicle owners who wondered why other items — such as strollers, bikes, gerbil cages and toy doors  — don’t have the same awesome features a VW does. That ad garnered over half a million views.

One Facebook commenter wondered aloud why baby strollers don’t have automatic brakes. After all, if cars can have them, surely baby strollers can, too.

So VW took that idea and ran with it. It created a baby stroller with automatic brakes. But that’s not all. Going a step further, VW built in tech that allowed the baby stroller to automatically follow a person using some sort of remote GPS device.

Since launch on August 3, that video has been viewed 280,000 times, liked 5,758 times and shared 4,228 times.

Whether or not this nifty invention progresses past the marketing stunt stage remains to be seen. But seriously, would it not be simple to implement automatic braking for strollers? Now, having the stroller automatically follow you around is another thing entirely. After all, you might be accused of, you know, neglectful parenting or something.
