Quora Rolls Out Full-Text Search: Good For Blog Ideas & Reputation Management


There’s no getting around it: the search experience on Quora was never all that great.

As you typed a search, Quora would show results if your text was found in a question, in a topic name, or a user’s name. And rather than get a page of matching search results, you’d have to click on one result at a time from the search box dropdown.

Quora has changed all that with its launch of full-text, keyword-based search. The dropdown still offers quick navigation to people, topics and blogs on Quora …

… but those keywords at the bottom of the list now lead to a more traditional, keyword-based page of search results. And rather than just searching the names of topics and questions, Quora is searching the text of answers and blog posts.

As I’ve said before, Quora can be a great source of content ideas for publishers. Having an operational full-text search engine should help with that.

It can also help with reputation management, as you can now quickly find instances where your name was mentioned in an answer — mentions that were all but impossible to find before:
