Pinterest Tips Icebergs Via Acquisition, Service To Shut Down In A Month

The popular “visual organization for creative minds” app, Icebergs, has been capsized by Pinterest through a recent acquisition. The popular tool featured a variety of plans from free to paid that gave different levels of storage and collections (or Icebergs) that were stored in a cloud based format. Bad news is that the Icebergs service will soon be sinking.

Icebergs allowed users to save images, pages, videos, audio files, notes and more into various different “icedrops” that compiled an overall Iceberg. For all you lovers of the service, apologies — the service will be ending as of September 1st. Users can still export all their work with a “few options” to export.

The Icebergs team released the following statement on the acquisition:

“We are thrilled to be joining forces with the talented Pinterest team in San Francisco, a perfect home for our experience in product and design. On Pinterest, there are tens of millions of people discovering more than 30 billion Pins, and we can’t wait to use what we’ve learned building Icebergs to help make their experience even better.”

So what does this mean for Pinterest? There could be a more significant push towards more significant organization — more than just images and web content. The file additions that Iceberg offered were slick and could really make waves in a much needed, modern bookmarking/organization format for more substantial projects.
