Pinterest has confirmed its purchase of
Livestar, a mobile/local recommendations app — but the purchase is about the team of engineers more than the service itself.
In an email, a Pinterest spokesperson tells us:
We think the Livestar team is a natural fit for Pinterest because of their commitment to inspiring people to do things in their everyday lives through social and expert recommendations. The Livestar engineering team will be joining Pinterest in the coming weeks. CEO and founder Fritz Lanman will not be joining the team, but he will continue to advise Pinterest.
As for Livestar itself, the service is shutting down immediately.
We believe this to be Pinterest’s second acquisition, following its purchase of Punchfork in January, a recipe discovery site.
Pinterest recently landed a $200 million funding round that valued the company at $2.5 billion.
Coincidentally, Yahoo today also bought mobile recommendation service Jybe — another move that was more about bringing in the employees than the service.
