Newcastle Asks Fans For Photos, Which It’ll Convert (Very Badly) Into Ads

Newcastle Ale has decided it’s spent far too much on its advertising this year. And, perhaps it has, what with that whole Anna Kendrick Super Bowl thing and Zachary Quinto July 4th thing. Now, the brand is shooting for something much simpler and much less expensive because they blew their marketing budget by “paying celebrities to pretend to drink our beer.”

With the #NewcastleAdAid hashtag, the brand is asking fans and followers to unearth photos of themselves and submit them so that they can be turned into ads for the brand. Specifically, they want boring images on which they can slap some copy and a logo and, “bam,” create an ingenious, yet, cheap ad.

With a video (below) created by Droga5, the brand urges everyone to find their most mediocre photos and tag them with #NewcastleAdAid on the brand’s Twitter or Facebook pages.




So far, the response has been promising, with submissions coming in steadily on Twitter:
