The process for getting your site listed in Google News has been nothing short of a catastrophe over the past few years. Google News has been known to have vague quality standards and a submission process that left webmasters guessing.
Thankfully, Google has released Google News Publisher Center that integrates with your Webmaster Tools account for site verification.
Upon entering Publisher Center, you’ll see the various sites that you have verified as well as information as to whether or not your site has been listed in Google News. If successfully listed, you’ll have the ability to view details of the site and a helpful new ‘sections’ feature. If you haven’t yet applied, you can “request inclusion in Google News” and enter your site information here.
If you are already included, you now have the ability to edit your news content and choose just what type of news you actually are:
The biggest boon for marketers is the new “Add Section” item that allows webmasters to display specific news sections and give them labels for each. While there is so much you can try and provide Google News, this makes it quite simple for any news site to have their content sectioned off properly.
The new Google News Publisher Center should be a huge help for those that provide newsworthy content for the masses. For more information head on over to the Publisher Center or see the release from Google.
