New From Buffer: The Ability To Post & Schedule Native Video On Facebook & Twitter

Buffer has a gift for busy social media pros — the ability to upload, post and schedule native video to Facebook and Twitter.

Rolling out today, the new feature will be a boon to users of Buffer’s popular social management platform, at least those who produce video content. As far as we can tell, Buffer is the first social tool to offer such a feature, and it is available to all Buffer users, including those on the free individual plan.

Buffer video posts (The app accepts mp4, .mov or .avi files of up to one gigabyte) on Facebook will show up as native video that plays automatically without audio in people’s News Feeds. Twitter videos that are 30 seconds or less will also post natively, and they’ll play without a user clicking or tapping. Twitter videos that are more than 30 seconds will display in a Twitter card that people will have to click to play.

Buffer video posts to Google+ pages will also appear as native video there. For LinkedIn and Pinterest, which don’t have native video, Buffer video posts will display with links to Buffer’s video server.

Another bonus for Twitter video: Buffer now does something that isn’t possible on Twitter.com. Native Twitter video can only be uploaded using the company’s iOS and Android apps.

But it’s the upload-once-post-everywhere ability that will likely appeal most to social managers looking for efficiencies.
