After launching new looks for Windows and Office last year, Microsoft is working toward rebranding additional products, including Bing, Skype and Xbox. During a presentation at the Norwegian Design Council
Design Day event on April 17, creative directors from Wolff Olins played a video that revealed what appears to be a new Bing logo.
“Other brands are coming along too,” said Wolff Olins creative director Todd Simmons during his joint presentation on re-imagining Microsoft’s brands with fellow creative director Albert Shum, “Bing, Skype, Yammer, Xbox…everything is under development as well.”
Claiming Nike as the inspiration behind the rebranding initiatives, the creative directors commented on Microsoft’s need to have products that looked similar together, but could also stand on their own as a brand. According to Simmons, the Windows rebranding was a key part of Microsoft’s total brand overhaul, noting the company’s focus on design and people to introduce consumers to the new branding.
With a more flat look and colors that are complementary to Microsoft’s other brands, the rebranded logos fit Microsoft’s new approach to design.
