It’s the middle of November, and you know what that means: Thanksgiving is right around the corner.
No way! What world do you live in? Here, mid-November means that marketers have unleashed their annual cavalcade of Christmas-themed commercials.
Some of them are of the boring price-and-item variety. Some of them are Oscar-worthy masterpieces. And others still, like this interactive Kate Spade ad featuring Anna Kendrick locked out of her apartment after a shopping spree, take creative brilliance to a whole new level.
Kendrick, who was brilliant in last year’s Newcastle Super Bowl effort, does boredom like no one else. So, when we get to spend three minutes with her on the steps of her New York City apartment as she sings a rendition of “Good King Wenceslas” (among other things), the experience is blissful. Oh, and it’s interactive, too.
As you watch the video, entitled The Waiting Game, you can click on various items. Unlike many interactive videos of this variety, the video doesn’t stop playing and show you a product. Rather, it keeps playing and collects your click in a sidebar that can be accessed by clicking an icon in the lower right-hand corner.
Clicking that icon pauses the video, shows you a larger image of the product and, when you scroll down and click “shop now,” takes you to the product page for that item on the Kate Spade website.
Here’s the interactive version of the ad:
