Google Analytics Updates Goals Set-Up Flow, Adds New Templates & Offers A Verification Option

Google Analytics

Google Analytics announced a number of new updates today to Goals, including a new set-up process, new templates, and a new verification option.

Goals are created at the profile level, and can be started by navigating to a user’s account, property, and profile from the admin tab. Once the correct profile is selected, a user must click Goals and then select Create a Goal to begin the goal set-up flow.

Once in the goal set-up flow, users will have access to redesigned templates along with new templates that can be added to an Analytics account. When using a template, the goal set-up flow is pre-filled, offering users suggested values based on the industry category selected in an account’s property settings. The pre-filled selections can be modified as a user moves through the set-up process.

Templates have been categorized into four objectives: revenue, acquisition, inquiry and engagement. Users can also create custom goals as well. While users will only see templates relevant to their industry, Google has added 20 new industry categories to Google Analytics to align with company’s web standard for industry vertical classification. Industry settings can be edited from a user’s property settings.

A new verification process has also been added to Goals. Once the Goal set-up is complete, a user can select the Verify option at the end of the set-up flow to see what the conversion rate for the Goal would have been during the seven previous days. Users can leverage this insight to decide whether or not to save or modify the current Goal.

Verify Goals

Once Goals have been created, Google encourages users to take advantage of the Goals Overview report, which can be found in the Conversions section, to see when a Goal conversion takes place and identify any correlations between separate goals.
