Foursquare is out with a change to its app designed to automatically alert you to interesting things you’re near. Sounds ideal for Google Glass, as well as phones. But until “real people” are wearing them, don’t expect Foursquare to be coming to Google’s smart eyewear, says founder Dennis Crowley.
I’d asked Crowley about this on Twitter today, after seeing the news of the change to the Foursquare app:
@dens @pkafka speaking of the future, you have a glass app out yet? this seems ideal for that, right there with Field Trip — Danny Sullivan (@dannysullivan) August 29, 2013
His response was that until “real people™” are on the street with them, there won’t be a Google Glass app:
@dannysullivan @pkafka We’ll launch it when we see real people™ on the street wearing Glass. Got other things to perfect first tho. — Dennis Crowley (@dens) August 29, 2013
Fair enough. Few people do have Google Glass. But the Field Trip app for Google Glass, which I’ve been trying this week, is pretty amazing in doing what Foursquare aims. If Glass does grow, and Foursquare comes onto the platform, it’ll be interesting to see.
In the meantime, anyone with an Android phone and the Foursquare app can try location-aware notifications the “old fashioned” way. Learn more in our Search Engine Land post: Foursquare Now: Update Intros Location-Aware Alerts.
