Ever feel like you are seeing the same Facebook ad that you “hid” previously? Well, you aren’t crazy. You did choose to hide that ad and it is still showing up. Or, at least a near copy is. Facebook is hiding ads on a URI basis.
AllThingsD reported that the hide functionality on the ad targeting does not apply to the entire domain, rather the specific product/section/link. This means that you may hide an ad from your retailer for a specific product/page, but not other products, categories and links from that domain. With items like FBX and advanced targeting, this can be very annoying as users simply can’t get away from ads from a given site.
According to the article, this is a feature that will be overhauled:
The spokesperson tells me the company is working on an overhaul to its categorization system, and that a fix should be in place in the coming months. Same goes for having the “hide all” function work across the News Feed, right rail and mobile, which isn’t the case now.
So for now, you’ll likely be seeing ads for those “hidden,” but hopefully, we’ll see an effective “hide all” button in the future. For more see the article from AllThingsD.
