Facebook’s customizeable profile view, Timeline, has officially launched on the web, mobile devices and now on business cards. Facebook has teamed up with Moo, a creative business cards maker, to offer Timeline-infused business cards. But if you want them, good luck. Only 5,000 per day are offered for free, and you can’t buy them.
Yesterday, VentureBeat reported that Facebook and Moo would be dishing out 200,000 free sets of cards on a first-come-first-serve basis. Moo also wrote about it directly here. Retail pricing for 50 card set is $15.
When we headed over on January 6, a day after originally posting this story, we found they were all gone, with this message showing up:
Rather than 200,000 cards being given out for free all at once, apparently Moo is only giving out 5,000 sets per day (50 cards per set). And even if you want to buy some, you can’t.
EDIT: Moo reached out to us to let us know that while you cannot current purchase the Facebook cards, you will be able to once the promotion ends. Currently the only way to get the cards is via giveaways that are currently capped at 5,000 sets/day. There is no exact date set for when the cards will be available for sale, but the promotion will total roughly 200,000 sets of cards.
As Moo posted on its Facebook page:
We want to make sure you and your Facebook friends can grab a pack of Facebook cards, so we’re releasing 5,000 packs each day. Please check back around breakfast time tomorrow in Rhode Island, USA (ET).
Moo’s Facebook page has plenty of other people expressing disappointment:
Moo is doing a diligent job of responding to people asking. Check back if you really want them. You’ll find the information here.
