This fall Amazon shelled out just under 1 billion dollars in cash for the ‘l33t’ live gaming service Twitch. Just 6 months earlier, YouTube failed to complete the purchase after reaching a preliminary agreement. Sharing live-play videos in real-time isn’t a game — and DailyMotion has taken notice.
Yesterday DailyMotion launched DailyMotion Games, a service that will compete with Twitch with a product for both the web and iOS and Android viewing. DailyMotion is a mid-size player in the video space with over 11 million visitors a month and 180 million video views. DailyMotion Games is also launching with several major partners including Eclypisa, Millennium, IGN and GameSpot to name a few. DailyMotion will be facing off against Goliath when going up against Twitch as Amazon is a premier provider in computing services and has the primer brand that is well-liked in the industry.
For marketers, this may be a platform to watch if looking to target the gamer generation. Twitch offers a variety of advertising options including display, video and native ads in conjunction with the streaming service. DailyMotion already features a handful of advertising options including overlays, pre-roll and display to name a few.
