Today marks Bing’s fifth birthday.

To celebrate, Microsoft’s search engine offered readers a recap of all that has happened at Bing during the last five years, from its start in semantic search to indexing social content from Facebook and Twitter, and making way for the mobile revolution.

The site is also giving users extra Bing Reward credits for any searches performed between now and June 9, and automatically entering them into a contest where five winners will be selected to receive a variety of gifts, including: an Xbox One, Surface Pro 3, Nokia Lumia Icon, $500 toward apps or Xbox entertainment and Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.

Going back to its first days, Bing shared its very first homepage – an image of Denali National Park – and provided a year-by-year rundown of how the site has evolved since the beginning.

According to Bing:

You should expect relevant information to come to you when and where you need it. You should expect experiences to adapt to you and your context, instead of the other way around…Only Bing and Microsoft can provide all of this, and we couldn’t be more excited for the next five years and beyond.

Also on Search Engine Land, our Chief Content Officer Danny Sullivan offered an in-depth look at all Bing has accomplished, and the areas where it still needs to improve: At Five Years Old, Bing Has Come Far Yet Has More To Grow.
