Like everyone else Apple has released its year-end top lists. Below are the top iOS apps, including top free and top paid apps for both the iPhone and iPad.
The lists are a mix of “incumbents” and “insurgents.” Pandora remains in the top 10 (12 on the iPad list) and YouTube was number two on both free lists. The paid lists were all about games.
On the top free iPhone list, social apps were clustered in the middle, with Twitter’s Vine at number four and Twitter itself at 13. Google Maps, which saw a surge of downloads after it became available earlier this year, wound up at number five for the year.
Yesterday Nielsen released its top smartphone apps of the year list (combined Android and iPhone). It reflects something fairly different vs. Apple’s lists.
Nielsen is reporting total US smartphone audience reach while Apple is exposing top apps/downloads on iOS only. Nielsen shows Facebook as the top overall smartphone app and Google as the publisher with the most apps in the top 10. Below are Apple’s top lists.
