Yosemite’s Popular Tweet & Facebook Post Invite Mac Users To Try Its “Natural Operating S

Yosemite National Park, unmatched in natural beauty, can now claim a social media victory. Midway through today’s Apple WWDC keynote, which produced news that the company had settled on “Yosemite” as the name for the company’s updated operating system, the folks who know Yosemite best sent out this tweet:

We invite you to check out Yosemite’s natural operating system. We’re good on a computer, but unmatched in person! pic.twitter.com/ZjTJO74tdQ — Yosemite National Pk (@YosemiteNPS) June 2, 2014

It was in the moment, clever and funny, a textbook example of how to execute a newsjacking. The tweet quickly gained momentum and now has more than 4,500 retweets, 2,100 favorites and a long thread of appreciative replies. A few of the best:

@YosemiteNPS its even in the cloud — Dom Narducci (@dnathe4th) June 2, 2014
Best part is that while @YosemiteNPS might occasionally be #shutdown, it’s still not going to be obsolete in 20 years ;) — MBybee (@mbybee) June 2, 2014
@YosemiteNPS ooh, excellent translucency effect! — Forrest (@fbaum) June 2, 2014
@DamianFog Ahh I get the reference now…so slow…typical windows user! :o( — Miran Pankhania (@otorhinosaurus) June 2, 2014

Yosemite also went with a longer post on Facebook, which has done well there, picking up nearly 10,000 likes:
