As a long-time supporter of open source projects, we strive to contribute to the WordPress community as much as possible. That’s why we are a Pillar sponsor for every WordCamp all over the world! In September we were on the scene at WordCamp in Salt Lake City, Utah.
WordCamp is a fun, informal – but informative – event organized by users to collaborate and discuss ideas with WordPress users and developers. This year WordCamp SLC was held in the beautiful City-County building located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City.
Developer vs. User Track
Most WordCamps feature two different tracks to provide presentations and discussions for all levels of WordPress users and developers. Over 120 Campers enjoyed learning about a variety of topics ranging from what essential plugins to use and how to use WordPress for your podcast, to using WordPress for e-commerce and WordPress as an API.
Below are some highlights from a couple of our favorite presentations of the day.
Step Into Creative Flow With Your Blog Through Your Brain
With a background in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Hypnotherapy, speaker Holly Stokes gave an interesting and helpful presentation on how to get yourself into the creative flow when working on your blog and posting to your site. We’ve all been there, staring at a blank screen with the cursor blinking and nothing going on in our mind. Holly talked about how our brain works and methods we can use to find the creativity within and channel our thoughts creatively into writing.
The 7 Essential WordPress Plugins
Speaker Brent Jacobsen wrapped up the user track with a very useful presentation on what he has determined as the essential WordPress plugins.
It may seem impossible to narrow down the list of thousands of plugins to simply seven but Brent did a great job of presenting best practices for finding the right plugin for your needs and listed the seven WordPress plugins he believes are essential to every WordPress-powered site.
