WordCamp Atlanta: A Trip to The Tech City

The Bluehost team kicked off the month of May by meeting and greeting fellow camp attendees at WordCamp Atlanta. Hundreds of attendees came together to talk community, tech, and WordPress at the Loudermilk Center in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Attendees had the opportunity to meet sponsors, network, and join in beginner workshops on WordPress management, web design, and plugin development.

Over the course of the 3 day event, Bluehost had the opportunity to participate in Contributor Day and have our team members present talks during the camp. We enjoyed getting to participate in the different WordPress projects and assignments during Contributor Day. Attendees collaborated with representatives of each team to learn how we could further assist in the WordPress project.

WordCamp sessions are a highlight of the weekend because community members get to lead talks on topics that can assist users with their website. Jonathan moderated a chat with Executive Director of WordPress Josepha Haden about fostering collaboration across cultures in the global WordPress community. She gave insight into the basic parts of communication and the negotiation of meaning between 2 people.

Bluehost got to interact with attendees at our booth and through the various talks led by team members throughout the weekend. UX Designer Laura Strader gave attendees an introduction to UX writing where she discussed how to craft conversation with your users.

Developer Micah Wood walked users through a live demo of the block editor where they had the chance to participate in an interactive Q&A during his presentation.

WordPress contributor Jonathan Desrosiers gave users a better understanding of how to improve site speed with caching and Product Manager Christopher Miles demonstrated the planning and execution of inheriting an existing website. We ended our WordCamp weekend by selecting our raffle giveaway winner during closing remarks. We always have fun choosing our winner in the most Bluehost way possible.

Until next time…
