Remember when the entire Internet asked Marissa Mayer, Yahoo CEO, to make Flickr awesome again? Well it turns out that she was listening. YesterdayYahoo released a new, beautiful version of their Flickr app for iOS and Android. The app is chock full of helpful features and tools that appeal to the photography community.
Here’s a look at some of the biggest improvements:
Video Hits Flickr
The biggest change that will affect users is the ability to include video. A slick interface allow users to capture HD video from within the app and upload it directly to Flickr. The video can have live filters applied before uploading and the videos can also be edited before publishing.
Better Auto-tagging and Search
The new iOS app will help users find photos from specific locations and times thanks to additional auto-tags. This will now include color detection and potentially what the photo is about.
Better Sharing & Navigation
A huge boon for Flickr users is the new sharing feature. The navigation is now simple with a feed, camera and photo-stream. To share, a user can quickly tap to push photos directly to Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr (sorry Instagram).
Photo Details
To cater to the true photography community, Flickr 3.0 features a well-designed info page for each photo. The page contains all of the information about the photo being viewed including location, shutter speed, focal length, aperture, ISO and more. This is a very useful tool for photographers and is executed quite well.
Overall, this is a huge upgrade to Flickr and may help drive some of the social photo/video market-share back in Yahoo’s direction. Thanks Marissa and the Flickr team for listening to the Internet and making Flickr awesome again! The new Flickr 3.0 app can be found in the Play Store and the App Store.
