As Twitter nears their IPO, the features keep on rolling in for marketers. A new setting for Twitter accounts will give marketers the ability to receive private messages from all Twitter users. This will be a boon for marketers who don’t want to address customer service issues, hot topics or sensitive material with a public Tweet.
This isn’t the first direct message change recently either. Last week it was rumored that Twitter was testing an @EventParrot account that would deliver breaking news via Direct Messages. Prior to news, Twitter tested a @MagicRecs account that would notify users of follower activity via DM. As Twitter continues to grow, look for more functionality like this to beef up their message capabilities.
While this new option may help bolster customer service — it doesn’t make sense for all accounts. Thankfully, the new option requires the user to head to their settings and turn this option on unlike the “auto-on” Facebook direct messaging from last year. To test out, head to your settings tab and look for the “Messages” box in the “Content” section.
