Twitter: State Of The Union 2013 Tweet Volume Nearly Double 2012 Level

Twitter has shared stats saying that the volume of tweets during tonight’s 2013 State Of The Union address by President Barack Obama was almost double that of 2012.

Here’s the chart of tweets per minute (TPM) during the speech and until the end of the Republican response (click to enlarge):

The chart shows the overall volume like this:

  1. 2012: 766,681 tweets

  2. 2013: 1.36 million tweets

Top Moments: Middle Class, Gun Control & Education

The chart shows top moments this year as follows:

  1. 24,000 TPM: happened at 9:52pm ET, in response to middle class opportunities & minimum wage

  2. 23,700 TPM: happened at 1012pm ET, in response to gun control legislation

  3. 19,000 TPM: when Obama said “Let’s give our kids that change” about education changes

Last year’s peak moment was Obama’s “spilled milk” joke with 14,100 TPM.

Also, Senator Marco Rubio sipping from a bottle of water during his response was noteworthy as the top post-speech moment, pulling 9,200 TPM.
