Twitter Rolls Out Updates For 7 Different Apps & Syncs Direct Messages Across All Devices

Today Twitter announced they are rolling out updates for their Android, iPhone, iPad, Mac, twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com and TweetDeck apps. Among the updates for all seven platforms, direct messages will soon be synched across all devices, so that messages marked as read from one device will show up as read on other devices as well.

This update is being released gradually; and, according to Twitter, users must have the most recent version of each app before direct messages will synch across all devices.

Twitter’s mobile search has also been updated so that Twitter users now receive an expanded list of search results with full bios on Android, iPhone, and iPad devices or at mobile.twitter.com. From the results list, users can swipe Twitter account previews to the left to see similar accounts. (Twitter offered the example of how a search for the MLB will provide suggestions for ESPN, Ken Rosenthal and other MLB-related accounts.)

The mobile updates also include a new in-app indicator that displays when there are new Tweets from a Twitter account.

Other updates include a new built-in Tweet composer and a new people button on the navigation bar to for iPhone users, similar to the current version of the Twitter Android app. The built-in Tweet composer appears when a user taps a tweet to see details. The new people button icon offers a list of  relevant accounts that Twitter believes may be of interest to the user.

Updates for the Mac app include more visibility into Twitter interactions with favorites, retweets and @mentions all listed under the Connect tab, the same as they appear on the web and in other mobile apps. Mac users can adjust preferences to show @mentions only, as well as manage notification settings for all interactions. Twitter notes that the Mac app now supports Danish, Filipino, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish and Thai languages.

The newly updated apps can be downloaded from the App Store, Google Play and the Mac App Store.
