Twitter Now Partnering With 250 Carriers In 100 Countries To Help Bring Tweets To The Masses

In an ever expanding effort to grow, Twitter is now partnering with cell carriers to help users Tweet on select feature phones.

According to Bloomberg Twitter has now partnered with nearly 250 operators in 100 counties to help users read and post Tweets without having to pay high data charges. In some deals, operators have agreed to waive text fees for those using the service, and in others Tweets can be  read or posted with the data charges being waived.

A shining example of this feature is in Turkey where Twitter has partnered with carrier Turkcell. The partnership allows users to Tweet using a simple scaled-back version of the Twitter app with no charges to the user.

According to Turkcell’s Emre Sayin the partnership has led to threefold growth of Twitter users. Turkcell then can make additional revenue from clicks on images and links that are shared within Tweets.

Twitter has seen a slowdown  in U.S. Growth due to audience saturation. Global expansion only makes sense for continued growth,  especially as talk of an IPO continues.

Dick Costolo, Twitter’s CEO, stated that “We need to deliver a more compelling product for low-end devices.”  Look for more scaled down Twitter applications and partnerships across the globe as Twitter tries to keep up growth with a Twitter IPO looming.
