Twitter: More Super Bowl Tweets Than Ever, No Blackout Or Wardrobe Malfunction Required

tpm-five

Twitter’s shared that this year’s Super Bowl generated 24.9 million tweets, more than ever before, edging out last year’s record of 24.1 million tweets — and this without a blackout or any other unexpected events other than the Seattle Seahawks’s complete stomping of the Denver Broncos.

Twitter is still churning through the data, but the top three peak moments were actual game action, followed by two half-time moments. Here they are (TPM stands for number of tweets per minute):

  1. 381,605 TPM: @Percy_Harvin 87 yard kickoff return for a TD to open 3rd quarter (8:32pm EST)

  2. 271,775 TPM: Jermaine Kearse (@chopchop_15) 23-yard TD pass From Russell Wilson (@DangeRussWilson) with 3:11 remaining in 3rd quarter (9:03pm EST)

  3. 244,889 TPM: Malcolm Smith (@MalcSmitty) 69-yard interception return with 3:36 remaining in 2nd quarter (7:39pm EST)

  4. 229,533 TPM End of halftime show featuring @BrunoMars and @ChiliPeppers (8:23pm EST)

  5. 215,540 TPM: Give it Away Now by @ChiliPeppers featuring @BrunoMars (8:18pm EST)

Twitter hasn’t yet said what was the most-retweeted tweet from the game, but it shared many notable ones, including these congratulations & condolences from the two teams and the NFL:

But a surprise is this one from Sir Patrick Stewart, doing push-ups in a Seahawks jersey. With over 16,000 retweets, it has far more than those above:
